The Technology & Innovation Center of Expertise (COE) focuses on supporting transformative technologies and advocating for a competitive tax system in California.
Working groups and task forces of the Technology & Belonging Center of Expertise:
The SVLG Responsible AI Working Group brings member companies together to develop resources to educate and inform the industry, public, and policymakers about the role of AI and how it is helping improve people’s lives, addressing societal and scientific issues, and building a stronger business and innovation economy. The group engages with stakeholders about the future of this advanced technology and how it’s rolled out in a responsible manner. The Working Group is co-chaired by Google and Johnson & Johnson.
SVLG leads a statewide coalition of industry members and trade associations in supporting the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles in California. We have previously testified before the California Public Utilities Commission, California Department of Motor Vehicles, California Highway Patrol and other agencies in support of advancing AVs, including the successful advocacy for commercial autonomous transportation throughout the state and expansion of member operational domains in the City of San Francisco. Most recently, we helped lead the effort to defeat AB 316, a bill that would have severely obscured California’s path to fully autonomous heavy-trucking.
SVLG has an Antitrust Working Group that meets to discuss and execute advocacy regarding federal and state antitrust matters. The Group successfully led a state coalition of other trade associations in opposing the slate of federal antitrust bills in 2022. More recently, the Work Group has been in contact with Congress about the Federal Trade Commission’s move away from antitrust’s historical focus on consumer protection.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is bringing a new wave of innovation, with the potential to make things better for people everywhere. Given the transformative potential of AI, SVLG and our member companies are committed to the responsible deployment of this technology and plan to be actively engaged in all conversations on the subject. Starting right here in California, with generative AI, but also at the national and international level.
