How the “Heart & Soles” of the Community is Boosting Local Youth Health and Wellness

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Since 2014, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation and the Santa Clara County Office of Education have teamed up to produce the Lam Research Heart & Soles Run, a 6K and 10K run through Historic Santa Clara University and inside Earthquakes Stadium to improve and benefit children’s health and wellness.

The beneficiaries of the event are organizations that create safe places on-campus and off-campus where kids can play and learn. School-based physical education, recess, and extracurricular physical activity all build healthy habits that improve health and academic performance. When coupled with developmental curriculum, physical education can hone social skills and build emotional intelligence.

In the six years since its founding, the run has raised over $850,000 for its benefiting organizations. This year’s fundraising goal is to raise $100,000 for Silicon Valley Leadership Foundation beneficiaries. In its first three years, the Heart and Soles Run contributed salad bars to more than 192 local schools, providing nutritious meals to approximately 150,000 school children.
