SVLG Hosts 2025 Legislative Recap and 2026 Preview

On October 17th, SVLG brought together members and industry leaders for a virtual deep dive into California’s 2025 legislative session and what lies ahead in 2026. The conversation highlighted critical developments in AI, infrastructure, energy, and housing, while also showcasing SVLG’s advocacy efforts to keep California at the forefront of global innovation.

Members heard from Kris Rosa, partner at Rostrum, who unpacked the outcomes of key bills shaping California’s policy landscape. The event also marked the first engagement for Ashonte Smith, SVLG’s Director of State Policy in Sacramento, who shared his perspective on advancing inclusive economic growth statewide.

Four major themes emerged throughout the discussion:

  • Technology and the AI Race: California must strike the right balance between removing overly restrictive regulations and implementing smart, responsible guardrails to support innovation in AI and technology.
  • Key Infrastructure: Data centers are the backbone of AI, and expanding their capacity is essential for companies looking to grow and scale in California.
  • Housing and Affordability: SVLG continues to lead on housing policy, backing legislation like SB 79 to accelerate affordable housing development near transit hubs and unlock greater economic opportunity.
  • Sustainable Growth and Clean Energy: Strategic investments in climate and energy solutions will bolster grid reliability and cement California’s role as a clean energy leader.

SVLG is committed to bringing together our members and community leaders to facilitate collaboration on the most pressing issues impacting the innovation economy. Looking ahead to 2026, SVLG’s Future Forward Agenda will build on this momentum – working alongside our regional partners to shape a policy environment that fosters innovation, inclusion, and long-term economic growth.

We want to extend a thank you to the speakers for offering their timely insights, and to everyone who was able to join us for this important discussion.
