“San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan is championing a slate of housing initiatives that will make San José a more affordable and innovative place to live for years to come. The measures being considered by the City Council today as part of “Housing Day” reflect a smart, competitive approach to unlocking housing production and strengthening the region’s long-term growth.
“I believe the actions before the Council represent meaningful progress, including measures that will cut red tape that delays construction and reuse vacant downtown office space to create new affordable apartment homes.
“SVLG welcomes the city’s focus on innovative, results-driven housing strategies that expand access while supporting a vibrant and inclusive economy. Members of the SVLG team will be present today in support of these initiatives and the broader goal of accelerating housing delivery across the region.
We’ve been fighting at the state and local levels for several years to streamline permitting and to allow communities to find innovative ways to add units and make housing more affordable.
“We are committed to ensuring Silicon Valley continues to serve as the heart of the innovation ecosystem, and affordable housing plays a critical role in making that possible. We applaud the measures today and strongly support the city inacting with speed to attract capital, advance smart housing solutions, and deliver the homes San José residents and employers need.”
