“SVLG applauds Governor Newsom’s veto of the Safe and Secure Innovation for Frontier Artificial Intelligence Models Act (SB 1047). SVLG shared the concerns of many in the innovation economy – throughout this process – that this legislative approach would have a chilling effect on the responsible development and deployment of AI technology.
At SVLG, we believe in fostering a policy environment that encourages growth, experimentation, and collaboration. We are committed to advocating for policies that empower the entrepreneurs, innovators and leading companies at the heart of the global technology ecosystem while protecting consumers through the responsible use of AI. While we were fully aligned with the aims of the proposal,, unfortunately, the bill as written had the potential to create unnecessary burdens for companies striving to deliver cutting-edge solutions in areas like medicine, disaster prevention, or climate change.
We remain dedicated to working with lawmakers and stakeholders to find a balanced approach that supports both policy and regulatory oversight with the growth of our tech ecosystem that is so essential to California’s competitiveness.
Through the California Institute for AI Policy (I-CAP), SVLG and our members will continue to engage in constructive dialogue to ensure California remains at the forefront of AI development while promoting its responsible and equitable deployment.”
