Congresswoman Karen Bass to Speak on Racial Justice & Equity
San Jose, CA, July 17, 2020 – 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment that guarantees and protects a woman’s constitutional right to vote. Today, more than 68 million women in the United States vote in elections because of the courageous activists of the Women’s Suffrage Movement who never gave up the fight for equality.
In commemoration of this historic centennial, the Leadership Group is pleased to present Celebration of Women, a virtual event that brings together panels of powerhouse women leaders who will discuss today’s issues of racial justice, equity, empowerment and leadership.
This event represents the culmination of our year-long Celebration of Women Leaders series that kicked off on August 16, 2019, with Call to Leadership, when we were honored to host Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo at NASA Ames Research Center.
Throughout the 12 months of events and activities that followed, which included policy dialogues, speaker events, and conferences, we engaged women – and men – in conversations and partnerships designed to elevate women and girls into positions of leadership and influence. While our country has made great strides in gender parity with civic and organizational leadership, we want to continue to ensure that women are uplifted, recognized, and celebrated.
