Twitter Joins Silicon Valley Leadership Group in Taking 25×25 Pledge

Leading Social Media Company Signs On To Silicon Valley Movement on Diversity

SAN JOSE, CA (February 18, 2021) – Today, Twitter committed to taking the 25×25 pledge, which challenges companies to increase diversity in business leadership by setting a goal of filling 25% of executive positions with hires from underrepresented groups by 2025 or pledging that the number of underrepresented individuals in leadership roles will increase by at least 25% by 2025. The 25×25 initiative is a key part of SVLG’s mission to promote innovation and competitiveness and outlines the most comprehensive game plan to diversify businesses in the country.

“We’re proud to join the 25×25 pledge, which expands on our bold vision for workforce representation and commitment to inclusion and diversity programs to accelerate progress,” said Dalana Brand, VP of People Experience and Head of Inclusion and Diversity at Twitter. “Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation and we’re committed to making sure our company reflects the diversity of people who use the service.”

Last year, the company had already set an ambitious goal to have their global workforce be at least 50% women in the US, and at least 25% from under-represented communities. Ahmad Thomas, CEO of Silicon Valley Leadership Group, commended Twitter for taking the pledge as part of 25×25’s inaugural participating companies.

“Twitter has long been a groundbreaker in Silicon Valley and a driver of the important conversations in our culture. By taking the 25×25 pledge, they propel the conversation of inclusion and show themselves to be one of the most forward-thinking, action-oriented companies in diversity and representation in our industry. This is all about action to make our leading companies stronger at the end of the day. We’re proud to have them alongside so many of our member companies at this historic moment of reckoning, on diversity and representation.”

Thomas promised to unveil the full 25×25 inaugural class of companies at SVLG’s Diversity Forward Summit this Friday, February 19 at 9 am. John Hope Bryant, CEO, Operation HOPE will serve as the opening keynote speaker. The closing keynote speaker will also be United States Senator Alex Padilla in his first address to Silicon Valley since taking office.
