Silicon Valley Leadership Group applauds vote Friday on TPA and urges Congress to get the job done next week by voting in favor of the innovation economy

June 12, 2015
SILICON VALLEY – The Silicon Valley Leadership Group, with nearly 400-member companies, praised Congress for voting in favor of the Trade Priorities Accountability Act of 2015 (TPA), even though it was blocked from reaching the President’s desk by a procedural, separate, “no” vote on a provision to grant financial aid to displaced workers. The House voted 219 to 211 to approve TPA legislation, but voted 126 to 302 on the aid program.

“The vote to give President Obama fast-track authority to negotiate future trade deals was critical for the innovation economy and we appreciate the Democrats who voted for it,” said Carl Guardino, President and CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, whose members have facilities and offices in every Congressional district across the country. “We urge Democrats and Republicans to show bi-partisan support for this vital legislation on Tuesday because from milk, to movie production, to mobile phones free trade is critical for the country and Silicon Valley.”
