SAN JOSE, CA – October 18, 2017 – The Silicon Valley Leadership Group is thrilled to announce Google as title sponsor of “Santa Run Silicon Valley,” supporting long-standing San José community traditions: Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice.
“The holidays in downtown San José wouldn’t be the same without Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice,” said San José Mayor Sam Liccardo. “I’d like to thank the Leadership Group Foundation and Google for their efforts to ensure that we can continue to hold these cherished traditions for our community.”
Previous title sponsor TiVo was acquired by Rovi, ending a multi-year partnership. Google has generously stepped in to ensure the Leadership Group Foundation’s commitment to Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice continues for a 6th year – a tradition enjoyed by more than 650,000 people annually.
This also expands Google’s tradition of generosity through the Leadership Group Foundation, as Google was already a multi-year sponsor of the “Silicon Valley Turkey Trot.”
“Google is excited to play a part in supporting an important community tradition in San Jose,” stated Javier González, Google’s Public Policy and Community Affairs Manager for the South Bay. “Investing in our communities is incredibly important to us.”
“While the Grinch is notoriously known for stealing Christmas, Google has stepped forward to help us support Christmas in the Park and our Santa Run Silicon Valley,” said Santa Run Founder and Race Director Carl Guardino, who is also CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and Executive Director of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation.
“I am excited and looking forward to once again participate in this year’s Santa Run.” said Councilmember Raul Peralez. “The Santa Run has been a San José tradition for the past five years, and it’s exciting to see this event continue to thrive.”
The Santa Run is a family friendly 5K run/walk benefiting Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice. The Santa Run also collects well over 1,000 children’s books for Reading Partners, a local nonprofit organization that provides volunteer tutors for students in under-served schools.

About the “Santa Run Silicon Valley”
The “Santa Run Silicon Valley” 5K run/walk has become a holiday tradition in Silicon Valley raising $900,000 for Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice since 2012, along with collecting 1,900 children’s books for Reading Partners.
With public funding for Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice rapidly declining, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation – in partnership with former Mayor Chuck Reed and San José Mayor Sam Liccardo – launched the “Santa Run Silicon Valley” in 2012 to raise funds to preserve these two holiday traditions.
