Thanksgiving morning of 2004, Carl and Leslee Guardino heard a radio report announcing “20,000 people downtown running and walking to benefit the needy” in Sacramento. Carl turned to Leslee and said, “Somebody ought to do a race like that here.” Leslee gave Carl that look that said, “Maybe that somebody should be us” and the rest was history.
The Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot became a treasured Silicon Valley tradition. More than a run, it’s held on a special day bringing the community together to share happiness, spread kindness and love, enrich the lives of others and create memories that will last for a lifetime. With 13 years in the books, the community has helped raised $7.8 million to support five local charities: Healthier Kids Foundation Santa Clara County, Housing Trust Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County and The Health Trust.
The largest Thanksgiving race in the United States, the turkey trot embodies more than 25,000 community members. From family-friendly 5K run/walk, 10K run, and Kids Fun Run to honoring local policemen, firefighters, military, and veterans, this race captures the essence of what Thanksgiving is all about. Come celebrate the 14th annual Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot on November 22 and help reach the goal of $1 million for local charities. Register today: http://bit.ly/svturkeytrot
