Pedro David Espinoza is a TED Speaker, internet entrepreneur, tech investor, board member, and award-winning author. At the age of 19, Pedro became the founder & CEO of SmileyGo, a platform that helps companies invest smarter. His first startup gained funding from Frank E. Baxter (Jefferies CEO) and was part of the 2017 cohort of SkyDeck. In 2017, Janet Napolitano (President of The University of California) awarded Pedro The University of California Entrepreneur Winner for Berkeley. In 2018, Pedro founded Alpaca Pan Peru, a venture that empowers under-estimated women to become entrepreneurs. With the financial support from Bristol Myers Squibb, Western Union, and First Republic Bank, Pan Peru has grown from empowering 1 woman to 60 low-income Latinas to become entrepreneurs. At the age of 24, Pedro co-wrote a book with Jorge Titinger, with writing contributions from Eric Schmidt (Google CEO), Reed Hastings (Netflix CEO), and Dan Schulman (PayPal CEO) among others. In 2020, his book received The Latino International Book Award #1 Best Business Book Winner.
Educated at Berkeley, Harvard, and Stanford, Pedro began his career as a car mechanic at Toyota. At the age of 15, Pedro composed and launched his music singles on Apple, Spotify, and Amazon. Pedro is an investor in companies such as Nadine West, Kiwibot, and Feed.FM. He’s been a keynote speaker for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the World Intellectual Property Organization. At the age of 19, Pedro became an Under 30 Change-Maker and Young Entrepreneur to Watch by IdeaMensch. Given his commitment to sponsor Black and Brown entrepreneurs, the Silicon Valley Business Journal recognized him as a 2021 Latinx Business Leadership Honoree.
At the age of 25, Pedro became a sought-after diversity & inclusion speaker. Adobe, Walmart, and Splunk are a few of the companies Pedro has worked with to help them create a culture of belonging. Pedro is constantly giving workshops for Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) in addition to senior leadership teams to help them attract and retain top & diverse talent. During his free time, Pedro is working on his second book, The Real ROI: Return On Inclusion. Michael Dell (Dell CEO), John Hennessy (Alphabet Chairman), and James C. In 2019, Pedro wrote a book Differences That Make a Difference: How Organizations Succeed by Focusing on Innovation through Inclusion with Jorge Titinger (CEO of Silicon Graphics International) by interviewing 175 executives from Google, Netflix, and Facebook. Pat Gelsinger (Intel CEO) wrote the foreword of Pedro’s book by applauding Pedro’s commitment to equity in tech. Pedro serves on the advisory board of Children Now, innovation council of FWD.us, and advisory board of Plant With Purpose. In 2021, Pedro became the Vice President of business development of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group to oversee the 100 startups initiative to support female founders and entrepreneurs of color through funding, resources, and corporate partnerships.
